  What is LSPI?

  This is an abbreviation for Low Speed ​​Pre-Ignition, and refers to pre-ignition (the fuel is ignited and burned by a different spark before it is ignited by the spark plug) when the engine is in a low-speed, high-load condition in a direct-injection, downsized turbocharged vehicle.

  Damage to engines caused by "LSPI" has become a problem, and one of the causes is said to be that fuel injected into the cylinder mixes with oil on the wall of the combustion chamber, and droplets of the oil-fuel mixture are stirred up by the piston rings, and deposits (products of incomplete combustion) that are created when these droplets burn can become sparks for premature ignition. To this end, "LSPI-compliant performance" has been added and standardized in the latest standard, API SN PLUS, which came into effect in May 2018.
